BLEEDING GUMS
Bleeding gums are not at all healthy in fact bleeding from the gums while brushing can be a symptom of more severe underlying disease. It should not be ignored.
It is the most common symptom of gum disease that occurs due to accumulation of plaque at the gum line and leads to a condition called gingivitis. Plaque that is not removed hardens into tartar. This leads to increased bleeding and a more advanced form of gum and jaw bone disease known as periodontitis. Frequent gum bleeding can also indicate more serious conditions like leukemia, vitamin deficiency and lack of platelets. Good oral hygiene is the first step to managing bleeding gums and one should visit their dentist twice per year for professional cleaning.
